Endotoxins are left over from bacterial contamination during the peptide manufacturing process. They survive many manufacturing steps, remain after the bacteria themselves are gone. Endotoxin testing screens your sample using the LAL (Limulus amebocyte lysate) or recombinant assays.
Endotoxins are included in Standard, along with Basic analysis and private results. In Custom, endotoxins are a paid add-on to required Basic analysis and any product surcharge.
Why it matters for peptides
Endotoxins are fragments of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria, which include many harmless types, but also very dangerous ones. When these bacteria die or multiply, they release endotoxins into their surrounding environment. At a certain level of exposure, they trigger fever, chills, and a broader immune reaction — a pyrogenic response — once it reaches the bloodstream.
For any reconstituted preparation, endotoxin screening is one of the most direct safety checks you can run beyond identity and potency, and tells you whether the manufacturing process kept bacterial exposure under control.

What are endotoxins?
Endotoxins are toxic components of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. Such bacteria are extremely common in the environment and include many harmless types, but also very dangerous (pathogenic) ones such as Escherichia coli (E.coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Yersinia pestis. When these bacteria die or multiply, they release endotoxins into their surrounding environment.
Are endotoxins dangerous?
When endotoxins reach the bloodstream, a sufficient concentraion will cause fever, chills, and immune reactions (a pyrogenic response), even when no live bacteria remain in the vial. They are also a strong signal of poor quality control during manufacturing.
How is endotoxin testing done?
By the LAL (Limulus amebocyte lysate) or recombinant assays, which are chemical reaction tests that display a physical response in the presence of the toxins.
How much does it cost?
Endotoxin testing is an add-on. It is layered on top of the identity, purity, and quantity analysis that every sample already receives. Prices can vary by lab, and will be clearly displayed in the testing order form.
